What you'll need
- Tire levers (wider fat-bike specific levers make this easier but standard ones work)
- A replacement tire matched to your exact size, for example a 20x4.0-inch fat tire or a 26x4.0-inch fat tire depending on your model
- A new or patched tube, unless you're running tubeless
- A pump capable of reaching your target PSI accurately at low pressure
- A torque wrench if your bike uses a torque-arm or thru-axle setup, particularly relevant on hub-motor wheels
Basic steps
- Deflate fully before removing the wheel to avoid working against pressure.
- Remove the wheel carefully on drive-side wheels with a hub motor, note how the motor cable connects and disconnect it at the connector rather than pulling on the wire.
- Break the bead and remove the old tire using tire levers, working around the rim rather than trying to force one section.
